Professor Huang was awarded the PhD degree by the Australian National University in 1994. He is the Professor and Vice Dean of the National School of Development at Peking University. He is one of the members of the Monetary Policy Committee of China's central Bank. He is also an independent director of the Ant Financial Service Group of Alibaba Group. He was the Chief Economist of the Citi Bank Asia Pacific from May 2000 to February 2009. He visited the business school of the Columbia University as a General Mills International Visiting Professor from August 1998 to July 1999.
Professor Huang focuses his research on macroeconomics policy, international finance, and rural development. He contributes to the academy in the research on China's structural reform and growth. He contributes to the financial policies by conveying the needs of the industry to the policy makers. He also contributes to the financial and economical development of China's rural areas.
